“Does studying filmmaking from an institute help in working in a professional set?” the question was put forth by Antony Sony of the Neo-3 Direction batch. Occasion was when the 4 NEOS out of 6 who worked under Santhosh Thundiyil came for an interaction session at the Neo Campus this week. Arun ambat, Nirmal Balachandran, Dipil Dev and Renjith.. all were here to share their experience of shooting an international music Video with Santhosh Thundiyil. They were passed out on December 22,2010 and started working under santhosh Thundiyil on March first week.

All the four unanimously opined that the film institute background has helped them a lot while working in a set. Ranjith went on to say whatever they did here in the school was followed in a professional set also. There was nothing much of a difference. And this has helped him to boost his confidence.

Arun shared the story of his  journey to mumbai with the Neons. Once after the course, he with Nirmal and Dibil went to Mumbai to make it big there. He went to each and every film maker’s office he could approach and dropped his CV and came back. But the destiny was something different. They met Santhosh Thundiyil, one of the top most cinematographers in the Indian industry, here in cochin and that too in the same venue,ie, NEO campus! And that was like a dream come true for them.

And for Dibil, the set was a learning workshop. The important lesson he learned was “Don’t do what you are not supposed to do in a set. Learn those DON’Ts. People will tell you what you are supposed to do!”. His experiences in the set left some lighter moments in the venue.

And Nirmal had a lot talk about how they could impress Santhosh Thundiyil with their work. And he gave the full credit to Jain sir and Neo film school for their good performance in the set.

Jain sir who was present at the occasion told the students that to excel in any field anybody is supposed to do their bit of karma perfectly. The rest will happen by itself. And for these guys, their part was they set on a journey to Mumbai and these journeys are an essential part of any one who will make it big in the world of Cinema.

The arena was then opened to the NEOS and NEONS to interact after the formal meeting. NEONS were eager to know more about the experience of the NEOS during the shoot. They had a one to one interaction session for more than an hour.

It was altogether a fantastic experience for both the NEOS and NEONS. We wish these NEOS all the best in all their future endaveours.
